Surrealism

For this unit, 5th grade students studied the work of Surrealist artists such as Salvador Dali, René Magritte, Max Ernst, and Dorothea Tanning. We discussed how these artists sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind. After dissecting the stories that the artists were able to create in their paintings, students were tasked to create their own Surrealist painting.
