North American Landscape Sculptures

This summer I got to participate in an amazing summer school program for students in grades 3-5.  Students began this project by learning about different North American fauna located in the North East, South East, South West, Mid West, and Western regions of the United states.  They selected an animal from one of those regions to make out of clay.  After creating their animal, students learned about the various land forms and plants that can be found throughout the different regions of the United States. Using that information, students sculpted a habitat for their animals using tape and aluminum foil that was then covered in plaster.  They finished their work by painting their landscapes and adding other various paper details.
